Austin Dempsey, CEO

Third Generation Family Business

After spending seven years in commercial real estate with Heritage Property Investment Trust, overseeing assets in Chicago and Michigan, Austin Dempsey returned to Batavia in 2007 to join the family business. Learning alongside his father Gerry Dempsey, Austin became CEO in 2019 while Gerry assumed the role of Chairman of the Board.

Now a third-generation leader, Austin brings an entrepreneurial spirit to BEI - expanding the company’s reach and services while honoring its legacy. Under his leadership, BEI has acquired Miscella Real Estate, launched In Towne Self-Storage, and continues to grow through smart investments and community-focused initiatives.

Austin Dempsey
Owner/Broker

Austin Dempsey is the CEO of BEI Properties and Owner and Broker for Batavia Enterprises Real Estate, BERE, LLC.  Austin is a graduate of Marmion Military Academy in Aurora. After high school, he attended Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Marketing. He has also obtained his Masters of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Management and Finance from Loyola University – Chicago. Austin is a licensed Illinois Real Estate Broker.

Batavia Enterprises, Inc. specializes in the development, leasing, and management of industrial, office, retail and residential properties throughout the Fox Valley area. As CEO, Austin directs and coordinates activities to successfully manage the business operations while assisting and supporting all facets of effectively running the company.  He also started and serves as Principal of BERE, LLC a full service brokerage, third party management and Municipal consulting firm located in Batavia.

Austin grew up in Elburn, IL and currently resides in Batavia.  He is active in the local community sitting on the Board of Directors for Batavia Enterprises, Inc., Marmion Military Academy Alumni Association, The Fox Valley Patriotic Organization and The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley. Austin is also a former two term president of Batavia MainStreet and was a founding member of the Batavia Arts Council and the Batavia Bike Commission.

Edward Stetter
Managing Director

Ed is a seasoned Executive and Attorney with over 20 years of experience in strategic planning, operations management, business development, finance, and legal functions. Prior to joining BEI, Ed was the founder of SPEC Sensors, LLC, a global pioneer in gas sensors and electronics, where he successfully led the organization through startup, growth, reorganization, and exit. Ed is experienced in establishing strategic partnerships and negotiating complex technology development and IP transactions but is also known for his leadership skills and ability to build and inspire great teams. Ed also brings his experience in real estate law and tax to BEI’s Commercial Real Estate business. 

Ed is a ’97 graduate of Marmion Military Academy and earned his Bachelors of Business Administration from University of Notre Dame, and J.D. from the Chicago Kent College of Law.

Faith Lundstrom
Administrative Assistant

Faith is an administrative assistant who joined the BEI team in July 2023.  Her role encompasses a wide range of tasks, from handling phone calls and greeting visitors to ensuring the smooth functioning of daily operations. 

Born and raised in the Chicago area, Faith graduated from North Central College with a BA in Organizational Communications.  Her professional experience includes holding various administrative assistant positions in Chicago before taking a break from the workforce to focus on raising her family.  After 17 years and raising 4 children, the connections & relationships Faith made in Batavia led to her current position here at BEI. She lives in Aurora with her husband and children and in her free time loves horseback riding and enjoying the outdoors with their dogs.

Amy Larson
Executive Assistant and Commercial Broker

Amy was born and raised in the Midwest. Family is what drew her to the Chicago suburbs where she attended Aurora University for a short time before transferring to the Illinois Institute of Art in downtown Chicago. After graduating with a Bachelors degree in Fashion Marketing and Management, she eventually made her way back to Batavia and has made the city her home for the past 12 years.

With over 15 years of working a combination of retail, optical and customer service, Amy jumped on the opportunity to join the BEI family! Working for a company where the focus is on servicing and supporting clients and entrepreneurs as well as being a part of the growth, development and the betterment of the community in which we live is what excites her the most.  Amy recently earned her Commercial Real Estate Brokers license from Kaplan University in 2025.

When Amy is not at work, her world revolves around her two dogs, Gnarly and Pi, her husband and her family. She is a local girl who spends her free time doing yoga, running,  riding her bicycle, exploring local shops, hiking with her dogs and spending time with friends and family.

Trina Zawacki
Staff Accountant

Trina grew up right here in Batavia, Illinois. She has enjoyed watching the city grow into the bustling suburb it is now! She received her Bachelor of Arts from North Central College studying Art History and completed an internship at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago.

After college, Trina joined the Miscella Real Estate Family while also starting a family of her own. Serving as Office Manager at Miscella she was responsible for a variety of different tasks including marketing, regulation compliance, bookkeeping, administrative support, and whatever else was needed to help her brokers! Merging with BEI Commercial Real Estate came with the exciting opportunity to focus more on the accounting aspects, and she has accepted the position of Staff Accountant focusing on Accounts Payable at Batavia Enterprises.

Trina enjoys spending time outdoors and traveling with her family. Her two children keep her plenty busy, but when she has a break, she enjoys live music with her husband, dining out, binge-watching shows and Sci-Fi movies, or visiting a new brewery with friends.

Kay Heney
Senior Staff Accountant

Kay grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Illinois in 1983. She graduated from Waubonsie Valley High School and went on to earn her Associate degree from College of DuPage.

She started part time with BEI Commercial Real Estate in 1999 as an Accounting Assistant. In 2004, she moved to full-time status, taking on more responsibilities. Presently, she is responsible for all aspects of Accounts Receivable such as bank deposits, billing, collections, lease reviews, bank statement reconciliations and 3rd party account management.  She works closely with the Controller as well as the Leasing Team and continues to learn new things and take on more responsibilities as the company grows.

Kay lives in North Aurora, IL with her husband.  In her spare time, she enjoys going to the gym and spending time with her husband and friends.

Greg Wetzel
Director of Accounting

Greg Wetzel, Director of Accounting, oversees the financial affairs of the company and is responsible for establishing process and procedure for the accounting department, and for communicating past results, budgets, forecasts, and consolidations to ownership. Mr. Wetzel is also responsible for treasury management and banking relationships, as well as administering the company’s payroll, 401K, and insurance plans.

A certified public accountant, Mr. Wetzel was previously employed by BKD LLP, in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois as a Senior Manager in the audit department. Greg specialized in providing assurance services to private companies, and was a member of BKD’s national Construction/Real Estate and Employee Benefit Plan teams. Greg coordinated audits for private companies with up to $1.0B annual sales revenue and for employee benefit plans with up to $1.5B total plan assets. Prior to joining BKD LLP, Greg was an auditor for Clark, Schaefer, Hackett & Co. in Dayton, Ohio.

Greg is a 2004 graduate of The High School of St. Thomas More in Champaign, Illinois and a 2009 graduate of The University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration majoring in Accounting, as well as a Master of Business Administration degree.

Away from work, Greg enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and two sons, as well as renovating their St. Charles, Illinois home.

Nick Scanlan
Commercial Broker and Leasing Agent

Nick Scanlan is the BEI portfolio manager and leasing agent for BEI Commercial Real Estate.  Nick primarily works on making sure all available space throughout the BEI portfolio of properties is leased.  He comes with a diverse background in marketing, finance, sales and communications and has seen firsthand the crucial role of small business in developing community wealth.  Nick loves being a part of the Batavia Enterprises family where commitment to excellence, client service, and teamwork are core principles.

Nick received his BA in Communications from Aurora University and currently sits on the board of SciTech Hands on Museum and The Rotary Club of Aurora.  He resides in Downtown Aurora with his wife Emily, daughter Landry and dog Harley.

Angela Skurka
Commercial Leasing Agent

As a Commercial Real Estate Specialist, Angela specializes in office space, retail, land, and property management. Angela has extensive experience in the professional services industries and is skilled in finding, leasing, and managing properties for various clients, from small businesses to large corporations. Her core competencies include market analysis, negotiation, contract drafting, and tenant relations. Angela’s passion is to help clients find the best solutions for their real estate needs, while delivering high-quality service and value. Providing exceptional commercial real estate services is her goal! 

Sarah Davis
Para-Legal and Senior Leasing Administrator

Always working behind the scenes making sure the I’s are dotted and the T’s are crossed, Sarah is responsible for drafting, reviewing, redlining and revising all the documentation that flows in and out of the office, as well maintaining the lease files and many other agreements and contracts that keep BEI CRE running smoothly. She works closely with the leasing and sales agents, the operations team and accounting department to make sure that our customers receive the best customer service possible. 

Prior to joining BEI, Sarah worked for Merchandise Mart Properties in Chicago as a Lease Abstractor and Lease Administrator. Sarah has been working in a Lease Administrator role for over 20 years in various industries including credit card/ATM machine leasing, construction equipment leasing and commercial & residential real estate.

When Sarah is not administering leases for BEI CRE, she loves going to the movies, concerts, and live theater, watching television, reading books, working out, gardening, spending quality time with family and friends, and hanging out at home with her husband and their cat Lucas. 

Brad Schreiner
Director of Sales and Leasing

Brad Schreiner is the Director of Leasing and Sales for BEI Commercial Real Estate part of Batavia Enterprises. He manages and oversees the leasing and sales team, lease administration and marketing for our commercial real estate companies.

Brad has been working in the commercial real estate industry since 2004 with a focus on office and industrial space. He has been involved in over $70 million in sales transactions and has leased over 755,000 SF of commercial space. Prior to working in the commercial real estate market, Brad was involved in sales and sales management in the Institutional Cleaning Market selling products and equipment to universities, hospitals, hotels, industrial facilities, and more.

Brett Coffland
Service Manager

Brett started his career with BEI as a maintenance technician, bringing with him 5 years of prior experience in this field at another local Batavia company.

After 9 short months of displaying a great attitude, hard work, and a dedication to keeping our properties looking top notch, he was promoted to the position of Service Coordinator. Then, less than 2 years later, he was promoted to Service Manager. In this role, Brett takes great care in making sure that all our BEI tenants are happy, ensures that our properties are kept in tip top shape, and manages our in-house BEI technicians. 

Brett currently holds a degree in Criminal Justice. He is also a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and the head coach at Levels Jiu-Jitsu in Aurora. When he is not working or training in Jiu-Jitsu, Brett enjoys spending time with his wife and two children.
